The U.S. electrical grid is aging and struggling to keep up with the rapid growth of renewable power. To meet the demands of a clean energy future, there’s a rush to develop a “smart grid” and build big transmission projects. While many state leaders argue developing the electrical transmission and distribution system is key for economic development, there is debate over who will pay for investments needed to revamp U.S. electricity infrastructure.
